Shooting Babies the first studio session for 2009 was photography for IWDIG members with a twist. Not your ordinary photoshoot where everyone is geared up for screaming babies, no these little ones and even the bigger kiddies upstairs, in the alternative studio, behaved like little cherubs. Grace and Dylan may have been the greatest wrigglers known to man but a quick rendition of “What’s the story in Balamory?” accompanied by frantic waving & calling from the parents soon grabbed their attention allowing a few more shots.

Above all, patience and fun was the order of the evening and all of the equipment, settings and setup in the world won’t get a decent picture if you’re not ready to have fun. Grace a mere slip of a thing at just 4 months and Dylan a veteran, well he’s nearly 1, were it has to be said model examples – you don’t get many kids so well behaved at their ages during a photoshoot much to the relief of the photographers.
It’s all gone baby crazy.. no feeds or changes but in between cuddles time for a few more shots!!! It’s obvious of course you would want to book a photographer who photographs in a style that you like, but sometimes it just isn’t that simple. On the day we did connect and had a blast. Child portraits are amongst our most treasured possessions they must be taken at a relaxed pace to let their personalities unfold.
We would also like to thank all of the parents for letting us capture the smiles of their precious children, and the older models too for their professionalism. As for the rest of the pictures – well there HERE

We are deeply saddened to report that Kevin Mitchell passed away this afternoon 13th February 2009 at the Earl Mountbatten Hospice. Kevin was inspirational to all who knew him through his involvement with theatre, photography, fund raising and his smile. He was an active member of the IWDIG and crowned the first ever Isle of Wight Photographer of the Year in 2006 and runner-up in 2007.
Although Kevin will be missed by very many people he will never be forgotten. Our thoughts are with John and Kevin’s family at this difficult time. A tribute to Kevin has already been presented on Island Pulse HERE

A snap-shot of ‘Life’ as seen through the lens of members from the Isle of Wight Digital Imaging group (IWDIG) is the theme of a new photography exhibition on show at Freshwater Library during February 2009.
Working to a very tight deadline IWDIG photographers had only three weeks in which to shoot, edit and select the photographs before sending them off for lab printing and finally hanging them in time for the ‘Life’ exhibition launch at the beginning of February.
Freshwater Library had a space to fill and as a group the IWDIG were given the option to choose a topic/brief to work to. The photographers had to visualise and take specific images for the exhibition. The production took into account the use of materials and available resources, in order to put on a ecologically friendly yet very cost effective exhibition in under four weeks.
Credit where credit is due as the exhibition reflects the lives, personalities and the imagination of IWDIG members who are of all ages and abilities, and is a real credit to their focus on good quality photography whilst working to a strict deadline.
May we take this opportunity to Thank Lois and her staff at Freshwater Library for their help and support for the IWDIG and our photographers.
The exhibition may be viewed at Freshwater library for the whole of February.
