IWDIG Photographers Getting Ready For Christmas & New Year

Next week we will be putting down our cameras and focusing on having a good time as the IWDIG Christmas Party is taking place on December 18th.

For anyone not attending those festivities – tonight Wednesday 11th December will be our last regular weekly meeting at Dimbola of 2013.

We look forward to seeing all of you next year on 8th January 2014. Until then, we wish everyone a Merry Christmas and hope the New Year is filled with health, happiness and prosperity for all.

Isle of Wight Photographers Join 6th Annual Worldwide Photo Walk

Calling Isle of Wight Photographers, would you like to join over 20,500 photographers on 5th October for the 3rd annual worldwide photo walk on the Isle of Wight?

Photography enthusiasts with any form of imaging equipment be it point and shoot, compact, DSLR or mobile phone are invited to have some FREE photographic fun around the Town and surrounding area of Yarmouth, Isle of Wight.

Isle of Wight Photographers will be taking part in what has been described as the “Largest Global Social Event for Photographers”.

The Photo walk is a great opportunity for photographers of any ability to socialise, learn and share tips on this annual event, which is now in its sixth year.

Isle of Wight photographers for the 4th time will join with locations all over the world in participating in a photo walk from 11am to 2pm on Saturday October 5th, led by professional photographer and tutor Gary Early. Continue reading

Isle of Wight Stargazers: Star Count 2013

Isle of Wight Stargazers are being asked to count the number of stars they can see (with the naked eye) within the constellation of Orion.

The national Star Count (clear skies permitting) will take place between Friday 8th February – Monday 18th February.

Everyone who joins in will have a chance to win a fantastic telescope or one of ten copies of the Stargazers’ Almanac.

FREE Entry To Dimbola During February

Dimbola Museum and Galleries in Freshwater, will be allowing visitors FREE entry to the Galleries for the entire month of February.

This is to encourage Isle of Wight visitors and locals to get involved in their heritage, and to engage with some of our exhibitions, one of which is a rare photographic exhibition from the Scott Polar Research institute in Cambridge. Continue reading

Amnesty Young Human Rights Competition 2013

Are you a budding journalist or a future photographer? If so, then enter Amnesty’s Young Human Rights Reporter competition.  

All you have to do is write an article or take a photo on a human rights theme… and you could become the Young Human Rights Journalist/Photojournalist of 2013.

The competition is open to ages seven to 18 and is split into different age categories. Photos should be on a human rights issue and we are looking for photos which that show creativity and that make the viewer care about the story at hand. You don’t have to be an expert photographer to enter!

Photos can be taken on mobile phones or any digital camera. Permission must be sought before taking and submitting photos. Written articles can be up to 500 words long and can be about any human rights issue the reporter feels passionately about.

RPS Call for entries – The World’s Best Scientific Images 2013

The Royal Photographic Society in partnership with the Science and Technology Facilities Council has put out a call for the world’s best scientific images. 

Scientists creating images to support their research and photographers making images to record science in all its aspects showing applications of diverse photographic techniques are encouraged to submit images. 100 of the best – selected by scientists, photographers, and those working in the field – will be included in an exhibition that will open in Newcastle in September 2013 as part of the British Science Festival and will then tour the UK and abroad.
