Capture Britain in a Day

As we prepare to step into the spotlight of the world’s media in the year of the London Olympics, the BBC is inviting people from all corners of the country to contribute to ‘Britain in a Day’  by turning the camera on themselves.

The result will create a time capsule of Britain as well as a feature-length documentary to be screened next year (2012) on BBC Two. Continue reading

Something for the Weekend: Clocks Go Back

On Sunday 30th October the clocks go back at and we will gain an extra hour.  Just like our Isle of Wight Digital Imaging Group (IWDIG)  project earlier this year when the clocks sprung forward , lets capture ‘The Hour’ as a snapshot in time.

Our own Ian Mitchell LRPS has been invited to regale members of Niton & District Camera Club with an interesting, if not cultural, photographic travelogue of his many visits to Cuba.

IWDIG Shoot the Moon

Today a “Total Lunar Eclipse” will take place, and although we planned to capture the moment at the Isle of Wight Digital Imaging Group it looks like visibility will be zero.

The lunar eclipse begins at 6.24pm and lasts until midnight, the moon will be blood red in colour for nearly two hours. Weather permitting and clear skies, it would have been visible from the Isle of Wight when the sun set at 9.19pm. Continue reading

Photo Shootout In Westminster

The nation’s politicians put their photographic skills to the test, with five politicians – three MPs and two Lords – named winners of the Jessops All-Party Parliamentary Photographic Competition

Open to all MPs and Peers, 450 images were entered into the challenge to find the smartest snappers within Westminster.

Politicians battling it out to become the next Prime Minister of Pictures in the keenly contested Photography Competition were named as Peter Luff, Tim Loughton and Nick Raynsford, while Lord Allenby and Lord Crathorne struck gold for the House of Lords.

Peers were represented by, among others, former Chancellor of the Exchequer Lord Healey and former NATO secretary general Lord Robertson who had six photos selected for the exhibition. Continue reading
