Chris Gabrin’s photographic rollercoaster ride through one of the most exciting decades in modern music, allowed him to produce unique, stunning imagery of Debbie Harry aka Blondie, Brinsley Schwarz, Ian Dury, Elvis Costello, Nick Lowe, Wreckless Eric, The Dammed, The Stranglers, Motorhead, The Buzzcocks etc… whilst on location both here and in the USA.
The exhibition ‘From Hear To Photography – Ten Years Through The Looking Glass’ encapsulates 10 years of Chri’s photographic career in the music industry and is on display in the Olympus Gallery at Dimbola until 2nd October 2011.
Although predominately studio based portraiture, there are some larger than life portraits set against stark white backgrounds, and many others witty, sharp, colourful and inventive. Chris has managed to capture the vibrancy and attitude if not immortalize the sole of that decade, which any fan of that particular music culture will instantly recognise.
