As the Isle of Wight Walking Festival 2011 is about to begin, we would like to take this opportunity and thank everyone at the IWDIG who have walked, danced and photographed the Isle of Wight Hospice ‘Walk the Wight’.

Isle of Wight Digital Imaging Group Photographers along with registered walkers and supporters, have braved sun, rain and wind, to participate in and capture ‘Walk the Wight’ to raise funds for the Island’s Hospice.

Over the years there have been some terrific stories of strong winds, biting rain and muddy paths and we have met some lovely people along the way.

Last year new IWDIG participants John and Verena captured the early morning start at Bembridge. Gary took the helm at Alum Bay and regular as clockwork Lorraine and Amanda filled in the halfway slot at Carisbrooke Castle.

Flatwalking sharpshooters Sandra, Colin and Ian capture moments of fun filled magic on the Sandown to Newport cycle track before whizzing back through to Alum Bay to join in the fun.  Michael and ‘Hendrix’ sharpshooter Doug play their part in biting winds up on the Downs and often meet a foamy reception in Freshwater Bay.

IWDIG walkers Jodie, Dick and Mike walked it and returned exhausted.

While Chris Dupre and Den Clare were welcome hosts back at the finish line, a grand finale assisted by Amanda, Lorraine, Lucy and Sandra was a memorable talking point.

With pom poms and cameras in hand, those crossing the finish line were encouraged to go for the burn and got a rare glimpse into what our ladies are made of. Need I say more it was quite a spectacle.

In 2010 nearly 12,000 people registered for the three walks and raised over £340,000 for patient care.

If you would like to donate a bit more for all the effort that everyone made last year visit our Walk the Wight photo galleries on Island Lifestyles 2020 click here  You can still purchase the photos and swell funds for the hospice at the same time.

Come rain or shine Sunday 15th May 2011 is the date (click here)  for this years Walk the Wight.
