Andy Hale Wins Isle of Wight Worldwide Photo Walk Competition 2012.

We are pleased to announce the winner for the 2nd Isle of Wight Worldwide Photo Walk in Carisbrooke, on Saturday 13th October 2012.

The winning image (featured right)was taken by Andy Hale of East Cowes.

According to the judge, “this image had the pow factor”

We will be viewing all of the photos during a special evening later this month.

British Powerboat Racing (Cowes) Photo Competition

The British Powerboat Racing Club is holding a photo competition for all those who managed to take photos of the Cowes Classic 2012 powerboats last weekend.

Deadline for entries is midnight on Saturday 1st September

The annual British Powerboat Festival with over forty brightly painted powerful vessels took part in two main races: Cowes – Torquay – Cowes and the Cowes – Poole – Cowes.

The British Powerboat Racing Club would love to add photos to their gallery and to encourage participation Talisker Whisky has kindly provided prizes to be awarded to the owners of the best images. Continue reading

IWDIG Win Best in Britain Celebrated Photographer Award 2012

The Isle of Wight Digital Imaging Group has put the Isle of Wight on the Great British Map by winning the Best in Britain Celebrated Photographer Award 2012.

IWDIG Photographers were nominated last year for the Great Exhibition Awards 2012, as part of a nationwide competition to highlight the country’s best.

“Having accrued 220 votes, we not only topped the poll for photography in the South East region but for the entire UK.”

“Its great to have recognition for so many of our enthusiastic photographers.”

Other notable winners in the Great Exhibition Awards (Love Britain Online) 2012:

The Isle of Wight won (Region) Best In Britain Resort and Bestival won (Unsung) Best In Britain Community Activity in the South East.

The IWDIG est 2004, meet every Wednesday at Dimbola Lodge the former home of renowned Victorian Photographer Julia Margaret Cameron in Freshwater.


IWDIG Photographers Scoop Electric Woods Competition Prizes

Regular visitors will remember: Island photography club members were invited to view – for free – the “Electric Woods – Blazing June”, at Robin Hill.

Congratulations to Isle of Wight Digital Imaging Group photographers Verena Sparrow, Chris Cornford and John Sparrow who scooped three out of four categories in the Electric Woods Photography Competition.  John also took the title of Overall Winner! and all winning participants are to receive their images on canvas.

Capture ‘The Spirit of the Olympics’

BT the official communications services for the Olympic Games are running a photography competition in association with Amateur Photographer magazine.

The competition is titled ‘The Spirit of the Olympics’ and although the competition will have ended before the games begin, they believe there are ample opportunities to capture the spirit of the Olympics before they start.

The images obviously do not need to show the games, but rather entrants must use their imagination to explore the Olympic theme and what it means to Britain and the rest of the world.

Images uploaded here can range from street parties, Olympic flags, Olympic Stadiums, athletes practising their skills or torch bearers running through your town. Continue reading

Isle of Wight Photographers in Best of Great Britain Awards

Some good news for the Isle of Wight Digital Imaging Group during National Photography Month…   we now have over 200 votes in the Greats of Great Britain: Great Exhibition Awards 2012.

Today we noticed with 206 votes that the IWDIG is currently top, in first place, in the Celebrate in Great Britain: Best in Britain 2012 Photographer Category.

The official title and category we could win, in the Great Exhibition Awards 2012, is Best in Britain Photographer.

Rest assured a poster in celebration of our wonderous accolade is now winging its way out in print.  Continue reading
